How I Bought My Wedding Dress Online

This is a repost from the archives of my old blog. I wanted to bring it back because I've had a lot of people ask me lately about where I got my wedding dress..so here's the answer!

Yeah, that's right. Call me a crazy person, but I totally bought my wedding dress online, without EVER trying it on beforehand. I took a risk, and it turned out great!

People that work in wedding dress shops everywhere are cringing as I say those words, but it's true. I really did buy my dress on a whim. Right after we got engaged, I started looking for a dress. I had no idea what I wanted, but I know I wanted it to be cheap. We were having a budget DIY wedding to save money (and stress) for our honeymoon! I'm a frugal gal and I had a problem with spending SO much money for something that I would wear for a few hours one day. I knew I could find something I loved for a price I loved.

I had a few requirements for my dress.

  1. It had to be reasonably priced. I don't remember my exact budget but it was low.
  2. It had to be unlike anyone else's dress. For a while, I hated being different but I eventually learned to love doing my own thing and having my own style. My wedding dress needed to reflect that.
  3. I had to feel like a princess in it. Or a model. Or a celebrity. No matter, I had to feel GOOD in my dress. I had to be comfy and feel totally content with myself in it.

The hunt was on.

I'm not sure how I got there but somehow I ended up on PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com .
I searched the site to even see if I liked anything. I didn't mind something pre-owned. So what if some girl wore this dress in her own wedding? No one that was coming to my wedding would know that-- plus the girl I bought this dress from bought this dress originally and then found THE ONE. So she never even actually wore this dress.

So once I saw this dress' profile, I knew I had never really seen anything quite like it before. I loved the soft layers, the subtle lace, the satin sweetheart neckline and the amazing train. I just knew that it was my dress. After contacting the seller and asking for some pictures and a verification of the original tags and receipt, I bought the dress.... FOR $270! I still can't believe the deal I got. I had never tried on the dress before, but I knew I had a good seamstress and I knew it was only $270 so if anything went TERRIBLY wrong or I HATED it, I still had room to buy something else. But the day I got that dress in the mail was the MOST exciting day ever! You should have seen me dance around my living room with that dress for HOURS. I literally put it on right away and didn't take it off. I literally just sat around and wore it while I watched TV. It was so exciting. It fit like a glove and I only had to make minor alterations.
